!? St. Nicholas of Flue 'Prophecy' (1417-1487)

ST. NICHOLAS OF FLUE (1417–1487)   -- MISATTRIBUTED PROPHECY

There is a prophecy that has been attributed to St. Nicholas of Flue pf Switzerland, even Catholic authors such as Yyves Dupont on his book of prophecies has attributed it to him, i.e. that the Church will grow so corrupt that the papacy and the apostolic succession will seem to be extinguished, but then the Church will rise triumphantly again.

The prophecy is true, however, what is circulating was NOT written by St. Nicholas, and, the text wrongly attributed to St. Nicholas also contains an opening snippet of a prophecy written in 1461 by the mystic theologian Dionsius Ryckel (also known as Leewis), saying that the Church will be punished in accordance to its level of corruption. (Source, 'Prophecies and the Prophetic Spirit in the Christian Era, An Historical Essay' by Johann Joseph Ignaz von Döllinger, 1873)

So, what is attributed to St. Nicholas of Flue is a cobbled prophecy made up from texts by two different authors.

The main part of the prophecy was actually penned by Cardinal Nicholas of Cusa (1401- 1464)
who lived at the same time as St. Nicholas, which accounts for the confusion between the authors.  You can read the original prophecy by clicking here.
