THE VATICAN INQUISITION
This is a
troubling case as Palma Maria experienced mystics events that seemed
authentic. An
Italian born visionary widowed at the age of 28 and who later
received the stigmata in her hands, feet and side on May 3rd 1865.
She lived on the Blessed Eucharist alone for the last ten years of
her life. She made several prophecies about Italy’s domestic
affairs, the rise of Anti-Catholic Republican governments in Europe
and the coming chastisement. She even made Great Monarch prophecies.
However,
it is possible these were all preternatural wonders. There was once
before a startling possession case where a Spanish nun named Sr. Magdalena of the Cross (1487-1560) was mistaken to be an authentic
mystic as she supposedly received miraculous Communions, the gift of prophecy, and a 'mystical pregnancy'
in her womb while claiming to remain chaste. She visually grew pregnant with a phantom pregnancy which then disappeared. She finally admitted
many years after fooling everyone that all her wonders came about by
a pact with the devil.
In the case of
Palma Maria d'Oria, the Vatican Inquisition was alerted to the nature of the
demonic sexual assaults. The manuscript of her confessor censored by
the Inquisition explicitly described the demonic temptations, in once
case the manuscript states “for three hours demons inflamed my
uterus.” She admitted that she was divided between the fear of
offending God by giving up her chastity and a willingness to give
in to the unchaste desire. (1) Palma d’Oria said she offered her
inner suffering for the Church, but due to the nature of the impure
temptations, the Vatican Inquisition obviously came to the conclusion
there was something very disordered in her case and ruled against
her.
Not to mention a major prophecy of hers had failed spectacularly - that Bl. Pius IX would see the beginning of the Age of Peace and the triumph of the Church, which of course did not happen - Pope Leo XIII's vision of Satan's Century had not even happened yet, meaning she was way off the mark.
Therefore her
prophecies are not included in the Timeline.
