St. Gertrude the Great (1256 - c. 1302)

ST. GERTRUDE THE GREAT (1256 – c. 1302) was a German Benedictine nun, mystic, and theologian, although there are sources that say she was a Cistercian .

One of the most esteemed woman saints of the Christian West, she was a notable early devotee of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Book Two of her work the Herald of Divine Love reveals vivid descriptions of her visions and shows greater elaboration on the long-standing but yet then ill-defined veneration of Christ's Heart, eventhough this veneration was already present at the time in the belief that Christ's Heart poured forth a redemptive fountain through the wound in His side, culminating in its most famous articulation by St Bernard in his commentary on the 'Song of Songs'.

St. Gertrude experienced a vision on the feast of St. John the Evangelist where both she and the Beloved Apostle rested their heads on the Heart of Christ and were completely taken into an ecstasy of delight by hearing the beating of the Divine Heart. She asked St. John if he had felt these pulsations on the night of the Last Supper when he rested his head on the Heart of Our Lord, and, why he had never written of the fact in his Gospel.

St. John replied:

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Yes, I heard them, and my soul was penetrated with their sweetness even to its very centre. (…) My ministry in those early times of the Church was confined to speaking of the Divine Word, the Eternal Son of the Father, some words of deep meaning upon which human intelligence might meditate forever, without ever exhausting their riches; but to these latter times was reserved the grace of hearing the eloquent Voice of the Heart of Jesus. At this Voice the time-worn world will renew its youth, be roused from its lethargy, and again be inflamed with the warmth of Divine Love.”

Our Lord also revealed to her that the revelations made to her were also meant for the Latter Times.

St. Gertrude: “The love of the Incarnate Word as exemplified by His Divine Heart is reserved for the last ages to be made known; so that the world carried away by its follies may regain a little of the warmth of early Christian Charity by learning of the love of the Sacred Heart… .”

I have included St. Gertrude's prophecy with the Great Monarch and Angelic Pontiff prophecies as it corresponds with the revelations given to approved mystics such as 1) St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647–1690), who was was chosen by Christ to spread a greater devotion to His Sacred Heart beginning in France and establish It's Reign in the hearts of men, and 2) to Marie-Julie Jahenny (1850 -1941) who revealed that the Reign of the Sacred Heart foretold to St. Margaret Mary will at last be established in France and the world by the Great Monarch during the Age of Peace, which will be the last and greatest age of the Church.
