Sr. Maria Steiner, Abbess (1813–1862)

SR. MARIA STEINER, ABBESS (c.1835, 1813–1862)

Teresa (Theresia) Steiner, known by the religious name of Sr. Maria Agnese Chiara of the Sacred Side of Jesus, was one of the stigmatics of the Tyrol. She was born in Taisten (today Tesido) on 29 August 1813. Her father died a few years after her birth and she lived with her mother in great poverty. She started to show extraordinary signs when she was a child: at the age of five, she prophesied future political events (suppression of religious orders, end of the temporal powers of the Church, birth of the Kingdom of Italy) and at ten, she had her first vision in which Christ indicated her mission: to become a nun and write new rules for the Poor Clares.

On 14 July 1834, she became a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis. Against the wishes of her family, she attempted to be admitted to various monasteries in Tyrol between 1835 and 1837 (Clarisse of Bressanone, Benedictine of Sabiona, Ursuline of Brunico), but each time she was rejected because of her poor health.

It was at this time that she begin to experience mystical phenomena that would accompany her the remainder of her life. Sr. Teresa accepted the suffering of invisible stigmata for the redemption of souls and the Church. Her inner pains were sometimes visible, especially during Fridays of the Passion, when red spots appeared on the palms of her hands, which did not, however, shed blood. In addition to the invisible stigmata, she had visions, saw souls from Purgatory, had episodes of ecstasy and violent demonic attacks, as well as the gift of prophecy and the mystical marriage (26 June 1839).

In June 1838 she wrote to the German Poor Clares of Assisi asking to be admitted to their convent and was accepted. On 6 June 1841, she took her perpetual vows. Initially, the sisters looked with suspicion on her supernatural episodes and thought she was possessed by the devil, but over time she gained the reputation of being a saint. In 1847, under divine inspiration, she wrote the new constitution of the Poor Clares, re-forming the old rules. In the same year, she was sent to the monastery of San Giovanni in Nocera Umbra (Perugia) to refound it. On 21 January 1848, she was elected abbess. She predicted the election of Pope Pius IX, as well as his exile and the persecution of the Church.

After a long illness, Maria Agnese Chiara died on 24 August 1862. Her cause for beatification was opened on 23 February 1909.

Although described as a 'Venerable' she has not yet reached that status yet, but she is a credible mystic.

OBSERVATIONS:

Our Lord is particularly upset with the corrupt clergy, but also with Catholics in general who do not aim for perfection and are not pleasing Our Lord.

She foretold fearful depopulating' chastisemens, which could only be the civil wars and the Three Days of Darkness also foretold by other mystics which they say will happen near the end of the war. She also predicts the persecution of the Church before the Renewal (Age of Peace).  She says nuns and monks would be driven from the convents and the Church will be without a shepherd, i.e. a pope, etc. NOTE: she did not predict 'Anti-Vatcan II Sedevacantism'.  Like the true predictions of the other mystics, her wording shows that the time the Church will be without a shepherd happens during the wars when the religious will be driven from their convents, the Church and Rome will be physically persecuted and chastised by the sword and the spilling of blood, obviously meaning the civil riots and the great war.  As we see from the other prophecies on this blog, this war will last about 3 and half to 4 and half years, so Sedevacantism which puts forward the idea of an 'empty chair of Peter' lasting well over half a century since the 1960s is not supported in these prophecies.

Her Visions and Prophecies

::::::::::::

On August 20, 1842, Sister Steiner wrote:

"Our Lady told me: 'My Son must punish the world for the great ingratitude for sins and for the little faith that the faithful of the Church have, who must be true children of the Holy Church ".

I prayed, cried and begged Heavenly Father to be appeased by the blood of Jesus, and to withdraw the scourges threatened upon us. I had been praying for hours - I give only a hint of this - when I saw the Most Holy Mary rise and go to Jesus' feet and invoke mercy, present her pains to Him. Then I saw the Almighty calm down, but I don't know for how long.”

In a note of the same month of August, Sister Steiner wrote:

“The prayers of many Christians do not reach the throne of the Most High because of their lack of faith and their coldness: they do not reflect on what they say. I saw the Lord so disgusted with these Christians and ministers, with the holy sacraments received badly that I was frightened. Oh mercy, God! I too had great reproaches from the Lord: my heart is not accepted by Him because I have not given it to Him entirely. For His sake I wanted to deprive myself of every consolation and I wanted to renounce everything so that He would accept my heart, but I heard myself say: "Purify it better first".

Jesus said to Sister Steiner “The ingratitude of Christians cries out to Me. They do not recognize Me as their Creator and, coming to My house, instead of adoring Me, they offend Me. So many are hardened in their hearts that neither punishments nor graces benefit them, and only they will recognize Me when I come to judge the beloved people; priests, religious serve me only in appearance. Where is their perfection?”

Sr. Steiner writes of the torment of seeing that vision: “I have seen their hearts: how many deceptions of themselves and how they are in danger of not being saved. I have seen the servants of the Lord in small numbers. Their prayers for the whole world do not reach the Divine presence: they are souls in grace, they also have good will but they do not put all their strength into it; and they lack guidance.

I have seen the good ones who do not have great sins, but their heart is divided into two or more parts. I said: "Lord, for your spouses and your religious have pity for the whole world and for the Holy Church!"

Our Lord: “They have great graces and great lights, but they are attached to themselves; and that is why the world is so bad. And how do they love Me? They are not good even themselves."

Sr. Steiner: "Lord! Will the shepherds (I.e. bishops) be faithful to you?"

Our Lord: "Many, yes, do what they have to do and have good will; but their goal is not right; and they have secret idols, that is, they act for human ends, and they care little for the souls entrusted to them. They think only of themselves. Among these there are also some Cardinals. And many and many go to ruin. The confessors do not attend to their duty to guide souls to perfection. I want penance and not many (earthly) comforts. Instead, everything seems too much to them ".

Sister Agnes recounts: "One night in choir, after many hours spent in prayer before Our Lady invoking mercy for the world, I lost consciousness as usual and heard myself say:" I want you to say these things to the Holy See. I want you to say these things to the Holy See, you speak of the reform and of the punishments that will come if it is not remedied soon. Then I will ask you for an account if you do not manifest these things that have been said to you for a long time.”

Then in front of the Madonna, poor and gaunt St. Francis appeared with his hands and feet full of light, and invoked mercy for the world. Then turning to me he said: "I want to see if the religious are my children or not. Where is their interior spirit? Where are the poverty, humility, the incense of prayer? May they reform”.

She also writes: “I found myself then at the same time afflicted and happy; then I felt the greatest bitterness. I then had a very vivid knowledge of how many souls in the world were in out of grace with God and I knew the many graces that they continually despised and the almost infinite number that, in spite of God and in spite of his benefits, went miserably to hell.

Then, for my greater pain, I saw the whole class of ecclesiastics, prelates, priests, religious and nuns, who almost all looked after the present life, and cared nothing for the future.”

::::::::::::::

In a letter of 24 October 1852 to Monsignor. Stella, Sr. Steiner had wrote the following message from Jesus:

Our Lord: “Look at the souls, look at Italy and the evils of so many other kingdoms, look that there is no taking cover, faith ends, look at the same clergy and religious who more than others attract punishment on the earth, look at how wicked they are and treat Me worse than the vilest things on earth, but they will learn from punishments because My hand will punish them”.

Then I saw I don't know how many religious destroyed. Once after the Holy Communion I saw the world so badly reduced that I don't know how I didn't die: I have no language to say it nor mind to think it out of horror. I saw nothing consoling. When and how this will happen I don't know. I replied to the Lord: "What do you want us to do?".

Our Lord: “I have many prophets, but very false and, therefore, My things are not believed. I do not find Myself among the honours and applause: My things are accompanied by the cross and by persecutions. Men have set Me aside from that which I would like zeal for my honour and for the salvation of souls. From the shepherds I want souls.

Instead, look at what kind of faithful friends the head of the Church also has around him. How those who are supposed to be the candlesticks persecute Me! O Rome, I cry over you as over Jerusalem. My daughter and spouse, although ungrateful, you love Me. Everywhere I am persecuted. If I were loved in part, I would calm down. The bishops, loving their (earthly) peace, are the hidden impediment; I am not at peace with them.”.

::::::::::::::

Sr. Steiner: “At night I had a vision: I saw the severe Judge who judged two priests in a majestic throne: it seemed to me that they were going to be damned, while with a sign He sent them away. I was so afraid that He would come to me: I was crying and trembling: I saw two other priests, to whom the same thing happened ; I saw two other priests ... The Judge got up from his throne and went to a place where many others were, He passed by me, I saw myself die while He gave me a stern look; but He passed, it seemed to me, in Purgatory, and then I went on to see atrocious pains of souls in another place and then I was taken to a point of that same hell. (i.e. she means Purgatory was so bad it seemed like hell.) Oh God! it never goes away from my mind. Then I found the whole bed wet with tears and I was agonizing for the pain and fear I had.”

I see the Lord as He will be scourging the world and chastising it in so fearful a manner that few men and women will remain.

The monks will have to leave their monasteries, and the nuns will be driven from their convents, especially in Italy. ... The holy Church will be persecuted ... Unless the people with their prayers get forgiveness, the time will come when they will see the sword and death, and Rome will be without a shepherd. But the Lord showed me how beautiful the world will be after this awful punishment. People will be like the Christians of the early Church.”
