Bl. Bartholomew Cambi de Saluzzo (1558-1617)

BLESSED BARTHOLOMEW CAMBI DE SALUZZO  (1558-1617)

In the book “The Future Destinies of State and Nations” (Turin, 1864) there is an entry for an individual called Ven. P. Fr. Bartholomew Saluzzo, and states he was a Franciscan and died in the monastery of S. Francesco a Ripa, May 22, 1605. The author of that book also states that a certain prophecy attributed to him was conserved in a manuscript in the monastery of Santa Chiara in Urbino, and retrieved by Pius VI in 1795 and placed in a silver urn in Rome. The prophecy was then allegedly communicated to 'a noble and virtuous person' who received it from a Roman Cardinal in 1820.

After conducting some research, I have discovered that there indeed was an individual named Bartholomew Saluzzo, and he is not only considered 'Venerable' but is recognised as a Blessed. He was called Barthomeaus Cambi, or Bartholomew Cambi of Salutio, (Saluthio, also Saluzzo). I could find hardly anything on his life in English, but on Italian sites I discovered he was a Franciscan priest who in the beginning had trouble settling into the ascetic life of his order, but eventually was readmitted after he repented. He become an itinerant preacher that emphasised the dire need for penance and was noted for making thundering if rather disturbing public sermons on the Apocalypse, he also had a bad habit of stirring up his listeners into Antisemitic mobs.

His tendency to disturb the public peace with his preaching attracted the attention of the authorities. They were reluctant to do anything to him as a miraculous healing happened during one of his sermons, but eventually he was strongly advised by both secular and ecclesial authorities alike to tone down his rhetoric and eventually he stopped his public preaching. He was a prolific theological writer, wrote devotional poetry, and was also known to make prophecies. During his 'quiet period' he was first sent to the Fonte Colombo, near Rieti in 1605, and according to the Trecanni Encylopedia of Italian biographies, (click here), he went into ecstasies and continued to make prophecies, his rapidly handwritten copies quickly spreading and creating social and political disturbances due to their warnings against a corrupt Church and populace.

Cardinal Baronio wrote to the guardian father of the convent to advise him that the pope was worried about these "hidden revelations" which were to be "concealed from him rather than revealed to the people". On 10 May 1607 Bl. Bartholomew was taken and brought to Rome, in the convent of S. Francesco a Ripa, where he was forced to live in complete segregation. Transferred later at his request to S. Pietro in Montorio, he spent the last part of his life there.

So, it is true Bl. Bartholomew made prophecies in 1605 that circulated among the public. Despite his tendency to get into trouble with the authorities and his superiors for his Apocalyptic preaching and predictions, he was never outright condemned, only restricted for the sake of preserving the peace, and his prophecies don't seem to have been outright condemned either, even if they were surpressed at the time to avoid spreading panic. He is still recognised as a Blessed.

However, despite all of this, I was about to label this prophecy 'questionable' as the book “Future Destinies” not only contains Catholic prophecies, but also fake prophecies, and those written by alchemists, astrologers, and even some by Protestants, one is even a fake prophecy twisted out of context from a sermon given by a Protestant bishop! The history given of Saluzzo himself is one red flag something is amiss: he spent the last 15 years of his life in Rome at the monastery of St. Peter in Montorio, not Ripa as “Future Destinies” states, and the year given for his death is wrong. This is odd information to give for a real life historical person.

Then, I discovered that in the Library of Biblioteca San Francesco della Vigna in Venice, there indeed is an old manuscript with various copies of Bl. Bartholomew's prophecy, and it gives better details on its transcription history. Apparently, the author of 'Future Destines' again messed up the details, hence the odd information.

The handwritten manuscript in the Biblioteca San Francesco (catalog number AF III 35) is dated to 1796, and the binding dates from 1801-1810. The manuscript shows that there were at least seven different copies of the prophecy known in the late 1700s and early 1800s.

One version is described as: “Verses of Blessed Bartholomew Saluzzo of the Minor Order” (Quote:) “This is a "copy from September 26, 1798 from the m.r.p. (Father) Odoardo, an observing min. From another copy, which is kept in the convent [...] (Doccia) at Fiorenza of the Min. Oss. and which was taken from an original belonging to a certain Mr. Orsini of Florence, of the verses, which, were sung May 30, 1605 by the B.P. Bartolommeo from Saluzzo in S. Francesco Trastevere of Rome.”

The digital edition / information provided by the Libary about the manuscript also states that a copy was found in the Monestary of Santa Chiara ad Urbino, that it was found with the follow title, "Profezie del ven. p. Bartolommeo da Saluzzo molto in buon concetto nel convento di S. Francesco a Ripa di roma, composte nella solennità di Pentecoste l'anno 1605"

So, the later copies did originate from a manuscript kept at a Francsican monastery, and, that it was taken from an original manuscript owned by a Mr. Orsini of Florence, possibily related to the Orsini nobles, the verses dating from May 30, 1605, although the place of composition is wrong and listed as having been written at the Monastery of S. Francesco a Ripa. Strange that the author of the “Future Destines” should declare this was the date of Bl, Barthomew's death when it was the date the poem's composition. No doubt the author of the “Future Destinies” added the flamboyant detail of Pope Pius VI placing the prophecy in a silver urn in 1795 to make a stronger connection to his papacy.

Despite the odd mix up of historical details, it seems Bl. Bartholomew did pen these lines, they sound very much like his style of poetic writing when compared with other samples available in digital archives, although we have to be careful as the manuscript in the Library noted there were some changes and modifications to the prophecies along the way.

About the prophecies themselves: they were composed only a few years after the French Wars of Religion (1562-1598) in mind, when the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre happened in Paris, and the 'hated French' did invade Italy, for the Duke of Savoy had invaded Saluzzo.   It is no wonder Bl Bartholomew could easily stir up crowds into a panic with his prophecies - at the time, it did seem like the world was near the end!  However, these prophecies apparently contain a future prophecy regarding the invasion of Napoleon, and then the future restoration of the Church after the great chastisements. Also, they could have been altered in the transmission process by later authors familiar with the Angelic Pontiff prophecies. One of the manuscripts in the Venetian library also contains the Prophecy of Ven. Bede, evidence they were aware of other prophecies.

Nevertheless, I have included this prophecy attributed to Bl. Bartholomew Saluzzo in the Prophecy Timeline as contains elements of the Three Days of Darkness prophecy, the destruction of Rome by a genocidal war started by the French after they have lost the Faith, the 'Burning Face' prediction, the invasion of 'Turkish Moors', and that the Church will be restored. These correspond with other Great Monarch and Angelic Pontiff prophecies, especially with prophecies revealed to Marie-Julie Jahenny sometime after the date of the manuscript in Venice and also the publication of the “Future Destines”, meaning the authors of these books could not have been influenced by her predictions and therefore these prophecies attributed to Bl. Bartholomew could indeed be true. There are some interesting details, which strangely coincide with our times, which other prophecies point out is the era in which Rome is just about to be chastised and destroyed.

So, as mentioned, I have included the prophecies attributed to Bl. Bartholomew, but as I pointed out above please read them with a grain of salt due to the nature of the sources from which they were taken.

The prophecy is written in an odd form of poetic Italian dating from the early 17th century, which I'm having a hard time translating, so, please forgive the strange wording as I offer a literal rendering. I've also included some observations and explanations.

First Prophecy

Rather I want to (remain?) in Tartary ports
In the infernal arder,
That never contradict again
To my sweet Love.
(I.e. he would rather remain exiled in hot

pagan lands rather than go against God.)
Ode in confirmation
And also in oblation
I offer, my heart,
To my sweet Lord.
Take my heart then,
O sweet, O dear God,
Fire burning and burning
Take care of my mind:
Burning and burning fire
It burns little by little,
And the Holy Spirit
Which confirms my tears.
I can no longer keep quiet
The offence and displeasure
What the world does to Jesus:
Ah! world, do not do anymore!
What good have you already too,
Sharp and raw sword
Anyone now bare,
In offending Jesus:
Deh! world, do not do anymore!
He was angry and angry at the bloody
Stocco (?) to castigate.
And then, as you (have time to) amend,
you do not want (to),
and when you want, you will not be able to.
Oh what a cruel scourge will come upon you,
Thanks to your guilt.
Already I see the army
which will be sent by a righteous, ruthless,
unjust and disheartened people,
and the supreme good Jesus cast out under his feet;
O You, supreme, who sit upon the great throne,
Oh what a high mourning overtakes you!
With sword, spear and rod I already see, my Italy,
Iniquitous people and (ria?), Already the infantry
(Ch'a?) comes to you already.
Or how good he feels.
He has punishment and punishment.
Who despises the highest good! Oh hard mess -
When destroyed it will be ruined the temple!
(i.e. St. Peter's will be in ruins.)
Alas how reduced,
Bound and imprisoned
In exile the shepherds and the prelates will be sent!
One is expected to be beaten,
O sad one, o good one,
What is going (or striking) to the bone.
(NOTE: a 'good, sad one' is going to be beaten when Rome is in ruins? A Pope?)
(Rubel?) I see every state
For the wicked people
And badly put together;
Oh how the world has changed!
Already I already see the sword
that comes to you, or Rome,
and to you that the great burden that Peter bears.
All your great power will become glass,
because the divine will will be scarce in you.
(i.e. Rome will be reduced to nothing like breakable glass

because it will have grown corrupt and have forgotten Divine truths.)
Neither will you be able to resist anything;
Alas, that in a brown dress weep
(i.e sackcloth? Or, the Franciscans will weep?)
I see you strong and the cry out!
O you which expert you will come after,
You will still cry,
But your shouting
will be prevented.
And send yourself to pieces
With the edge of a sword
Burning and threatening,
Because from the head to the roots
Each one is full of sins,
The peoples and the prelates;
And yet they will be punished together
with a great scourge that is pressing.
Look at yourselves, for they will be ready to come,
But then slow to go:
And many of them your enemies;
And you design your (Saran?) then later.
Rain of arrows and darts
And sharp sword,
Ah, barbaric people!
Rome full of trouble:
And what will you do?
Now it's time,
If you want to escape, the raw mess.
(Odd words...) style,
It was stately. If you live presume, (in presumption?)
Alas! on this shape, strange people live within your walls.
In a way that appeals to you
(Meschine?) and sad
Taken you will be barbarous people:
How many complaints
Then they will each (make)!
And they will really invoke the apostles Paul and Peter!
But so irate are these ones
For many sins,
(or, because of the many sins)
Neither are you prepared to flee
The wrath of the good Jesus,
That can no longer hold the sword with the sword.
It will come, San Rocco will come,
Oh God, what a horrible touch!

(NOTE: San Rocco or St. Roch was invoked against the plague:

this 'terrible touch' is obviously a prophecy of a 'touch' of the plague.)

Show yourself, my good Jesus,
What I omit, not a little, I tend more!
But if you want something I will tell you,
I will not tell you in the many of the month
Neither month nor year,
Who for the clergy will come the great evil,
Being so sad and ill (ac) (dressed?).
After the day of Anthony the Holy
will begin the great weeping,

(I.e. a prediction that these great troubles will fall

sometime after the feast of St. Anthony – either June 13,

or that of St. Anthony the Great, January 17.)

You will see, neither I am mendacious,
Brash Rome, and you will be ruined.
Rome can no longer suffer the good Jesus;
But with the sword and the spear,
the crude France will come when it is so corrupt.
For their great evils they will weep like desperate
Many pastors and prelates;
And (verran?) with them,
Taking from them what they have given them,
that is, silver, gems and gold.
In that horrendous day the trumpets and the drums
For each contour
They will hear each other,
and for three days they will make a great slaughter
For all the great paths.
Kill, kill, kill,
He will say this bad race;
Kill, kill, kill,
(Diran?) the treacherous men.
And so they saying,
Like a stream,
The flowing blood will go.
And yet he has to try it.
Now he rejects this painful singing of mine.
To many it seems madness,
They deserve their folly,
And they are unjust, false and profane.
Oh what a turbulent time!
It is not possible to contend with them.
Let us love the good Jesus, dear brothers,
That will scourge them so we will take them from our hands,
And from us they will be far away,
Nor will the prayers turn in vain
To our true God I know.
Gentlemen and great prelates,
I pray that you may change,
that if you will be angry, (at these prophecies?)
you will be very punished.
Come back to the path,
Because it's not madness,
As you think! Deh! stay up and come back,
Alas, what a strange dance!
(Pria?) that the Rooster crows (France?)
The talkative blow comes.
I tell you in the wounds of Jesus
Voice of tears and lamentation,
It is also what I feel.
(Cangiato?) is the sound of zither and lute,
Oh that the Rooster has already come!
And you, hoary Chief, what will you do?
With great damage you will see
that the rooster will come singing loudly,
and to how many of yours will give death!

(I.e. France will bring the troubles – and Bl. Bartholomew seems to ask the 'hoary one' what can he do? 'Hoary' means white haired – apparently, he predicts a white haired pope will suffer due to the French? This could be a prediction of the Papacy of Pius VI who was imprisoned by Napoleon in France. He died in exile in Valence.)

In the wounds of love I want to flee:
Who wants to come with me
Inside the courtyard of my beloved bridegroom Jesus?
After a course of time
Another comes from it:
But preparations are the stumps and chains.

(i.e. After this time, another will come, - the Age of Peace?

But its preparation means chains, war, and chastisements.)

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Second Prediction

The will of God teaches me to sing,
To sing is necessary for the Lord,
Who wants the heart, being master of it,
While He is God of love.
You that of Peter carry
The great miter and the great key,
Without sword and without arms
You will die Oh, Pope B ... .
You will see it clear and distinct,

(OBSERVATIONS: if this is a true prophecy, Bl Bartholomew predicts these chastisements will happen when a Pope “B” ---- reigns. He will have no one or weapon to protect him. Note also Bl. Bartholomew asks in the previous prophecy the 'white haired one' what will he be able to do? While this could have been a prediction of Pius VI as his last name was BRASCHI, it is interesting we have Pope BENEDICT who was forced to resign right at the time when St. Malachy's prophecies hint we are at the last of the line of popes before Rome is judged.)

That I did not tell lies, Look at Milan,
Rome and Bologna,
Who will come Gascony,
Smelly carrion. To contrast is not necessary,
Already written is the decree,
Which will no longer return indirect.
What stinks in Orvieto will be born:
Oh, what cruel times! You will see Italy moving
You that are musing and nurse
And then mother, and it will be
When Gascony reigns.
Look at you, King of Sardinia;
And you, Venice, of others
Think you make a purchase:
But your contours
From well-armed men
They will be subjugated.
They will strip you,
oh, what a sickness!
Oh how much damage will come to you!
They will deprive you of liberties,
And of your Red armies the sea will run.
Nor will the treasure be worthy of you,
Nor will Turkish Moor still be able
to release you with the League.

(I.e. Odd poetic translation, these lines seem to say this time

when the Turkish Moor invades, you will not be saved by the Holy League

as you were during the Battle of Lepanto – they will invade this time).

To you, Genoa, it will still come with good time;
You will see pass through your courts
Shields, signs and flags:
Alas, how many galleys!
Savona will be taken,
But in heaven revenge
Cries and resounds.
You'll see the comparison;
But what about Avignon?
It will be taken and destroyed
by dirty, impious, (mica?) and ugly people.
Spain will be divided,
(Ch'adessso?) is so great;
From deaths and pestilence
Look at yourself, Florence.
In the garden and in the occult (or hidden)
A horrible sign, and then you go
(Bigio?), dark and dark,
And the wolf in the den will not be safe.
The Turk Moor will come, bellowing like a bull,
making a great slaughter with iron and (....).
Oh unhappy! do you not think ?
Trumpets and drums will resonate against you.
Kill, kill, kill this bad race;
They put down what they now enjoy and wallow!
O you who bear a large square on your head
(i.e. 'Large square' is an expression from the Piedmont region of Italy

meaning a large office on your head, or shoulders)
Above you will cry:
Kill, kill,
And in every song and square
Above you will cry: Kill, kill,
And in every song and square
The great will be heard cry.
But you, my Italy,
And war and famine
Sends on you.
In those horrible days there are voices, drums and horns;
Mad if you don't return to your good Jesus.
Above you the bow is already stretched and the body will come.
The great blow will come through the marrow and bones,
And you will not be able (to bear it).
But tell me, rich and ornate cities,
beautiful Florence and gentle Naples,
which each of you has become is a pigsty,
with the impious, dirty Rome.
All three you will be (dome?)
And you will carry a large sum.
Thus, Rome, for your holidays, (i.e. Easy living, parties, etc?)
Thus, Florence, for yours with trade, (i.e corruption of greed)
(Diran?) shouting with trumpets and drums;
the Genoese are still not cured,
Neither do they see the towers
and the strong walls.
Jesus, Jesus, I know that you want everyone
to come back to good living.
Ah! nuns, priests and friars,
If you live (and) not change, you will still be ruined.
And then you will see (Scannati?) as oxen.
And it will be from the little friar
The poor litter (....)
Having become a veritable slaughterhouse.
Who will bear a great cross,
But with compassionate voice
He will call the good Jesus,
He dying (andranne?) upwards,
Never to die again.
But tell me, O you
Who will deny Jesus, to
What will you fall:
Wretched, what will you do?
Alas, how many damned!
I see nuns, priests and friars;
And you prelates, who mind,
what are you doing?
But here comes a beautiful company,
which is well received in the name of Jesus, Cross and Mary.
Oh when is that happy time!
Oh, what a beautiful root!
(i.e. as a new plant, a new beginning.)

(NOTE: a beautiful 'company' will rise up during the time of ruin in the name of Jesus, the Cross, and Mary. Apparently, they will be part of the renewal. The author of the “Future Destinies” wonders if this could be connected with the Cruciferi Order predicted by St. Francis of Paola. Also, Marie-Julie Jahenny predicted the Victory will come through the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary, and especially through the Cross.)

Oh what a lot of martyred people will be!
When it will be leveled
Or that it will be destroyed
Almost all Italy:
O the Church in the East will be reduced,
Oh fortunate people
Who will see it planted and renewed!
Already as before it is beautiful,
And you shining star
That will start
Ah yes (the) beautiful building,
Oh how rewarded! O happy fate! You will be glorified
Even after death.
You will be the doors
The sky wide open,
O blessed brother of the Minor Order!

(NOTE: apparently. Bl. Bartholomew Saluzzo predicts the Angelic Pontiff destined to restore the Church will be a Franciscan and considered or canonized a saint.)

Oh what glory and splendour Give your Lord
When it is that out of such evil you will come out!
And happy you will be in the high paradise,
To enjoy that beautiful face,
Of Jesus the eternal eyes,
So that it does not overflow.

(NOTE: in the next lines, Bl. Bartholomew appears to give advice to the Angelic Pontiff on how he should act during these terrible times – it appears this Pope will suffer during the ruination of Rome and Italy, but he must be courageous. Then, this is where the prophecy may have become confused with several prophecies. Bl. Bartholomew advises this future Pontiff not to 'withdraw himself' when the 'Rooster sings'. Possibly, it is a warning not to leave Rome, for other mystics have foretold Rome will suffer worse if the Pope leaves it. However, this prophecy is made against the French who will have 'lost the faith'. If this is an Angelic Pontiff prophecy, this is odd for according to all the other prophecies it will be the French King and his armies that will restore order in Rome, not cause the havoc. So, this could be a prophecy of the Napoleonic invasion after the French Revolution when the French had turned on the true Faith and made France a secular nation, stripping it of its status as a Catholic nation. However, having noticed this, there are other predictions especially by Marie-Julie Jahenny that the chastisements will start with the French in Paris during a 'Red Revolution', when France will have lost the Faith and deny the Divinity of Christ. A great Apostasy will also happen and many bishops will enter a religion similar to Islam. An anti-clerical genocidal civil war will erupt in Paris, and will spread rapidly elsewhere – if Bl. Bartholomew also saw all of this too, he could have mixed these events up.)

Fear not, for you will have much courage, very much,
Pusillanimous you will not be.
You must think of the Highest Good
that such pains wants in you;
Think about the good Jesus.
He has suffered much more.
Do not fear, what great strength
your Lord will give you if you suffer for his love.
But do not withdraw yourself
when against St. Peter
you will hear that the Rooster sings
Against the holy faith.
And to whom to speak to the French
Woe to those of you who made themselves!

(NOTE: next, Bl. Bartholomew encourages everyone not to lose the Faith or their virtue, even at the cost of death. He mentions some brave virtuous people and saints to imitate.)

Deh! do as the holy Eleazar the good old man,
Who was a shining mirror,
And before he wanted to die
What to escape or to lie.
But with his good example
He acted as a pious priest
And not from wickedness.
you then, loving fathers
Of all your parts,
Consider the great pacts that Jesus made with you:
Observe the great mother of the seven Maccabees,
To have them trophies,
Of this life did not esteem the dangers.
And you good little virgin,
Well keep yourself pure and beautiful,
Be strong in your trials,
And you will be the most tempted
By (the), impious and ruthless.
Imitate strong Orsola, (i.e. St. Ursula)
Who said: do not fear the death!
To his sweet companions,
To see them all with the triumph of the martyr
In the glory of the empire.
To each one martyred,
Paradise is given
For Jesus' sake.
(Because of His?) Word, not because he deserved it.

(i.e. we are rewarded by God by His grace and by His own promise of reward,

not by any of our own merits as we of ourselves truly deserve nothing.)

But I remember you for your own good
Everybody suffered pains,
But he did not have a crown in the sky
Because he changed his good will.

(i.e. Those who change their good will to evil

will not gain the heavenly crown.)

Oh God, who will be so great people?
Very little the winner, and much more the loser.
To enjoy the present,
they will bring horrible signs,
and they will take oaths.

(i.e they will not think of their eternal future, but for the present time of pleasure on earth the people will sell themselves out, making terrible pacts of some kind. Sounds like a Masonic oath or devilish pacts?)

What if they thought of all the evils
And of all the great arrows
Which above them will come
And what forever and ever (what) will come.
Where the lords and the magnates,
the nuns and the abbots,
the priests and the friars will come to despair,
and all the rebels to the true Church.

(I.e. If they only thought of all the evils that will befall them and also the thought of Eternity, but all the corrupt religious and rulers against the true Church will not and will end up in despair with their choices.)

As you do not want the danger,
Appalled to my advice,
Do what the first wants Prelate,
And so you will not be deceived.
To many it seems madness,
They deserve their folly,
This poor instance of mine;
But he waited for the substance
in what he has to come,
from what they have to flee,
from what they have to execute,
to escape the bad event that is after the eighteenth century.

(NOTE: the 'bad event after the 18th Century', this would be in the 1800s, this line points to the Napoleonic invasion, and, possibly everything that will occur afterwards because of it.)

O blessed Trinity,
Father of the Immaculate Conception,
Give to our hearts
The glorious palms;
And to them bodies relentless
Give virtue and vigor
For the Lord's sake.
Free them from their sins
(Plant?) and good confession,
Resolute and well contrite
Suffer (...) in these pains,
And so they are similar to the great Good.
And to this the soul renders to Jesus
in that bitterness you fall,
and I still have to do to please the great God.

(Odd translation: basically a call to return to a virtuous life, go to confession, repent of your sins and offer up your sufferings and bitterness, you will please God.

Third Prophecy

Note from the author of “Future Destinies” - “This prediction was kindly sent to us by a pious and erudite person, who in 1859 received it from a Reverend Father Provincial of the Capuchins, of which she says there is a copy in many convents from Romagne and other parts of Italy. It largely resembles the first two reported, but contains variations and circumstances that the reader will find not find lacking interest.” (Of course, we have to be careful as the author of 'Future Destines' is known to print dubious prophecies.)

World, no longer sin,
much you have (already) done,
I already look at you too!
The hand of Jesus takes the sword
Cutting and bare,
Because everyone sweats now (?)
In offending Jesus.
Ah world deh! sin no more,
If you don't want that anger
He comes with the drawn sword:
But to punish you, so you (will) amend yourself
You don't want it now.
oh what a scourge! oh what a scourge!
Little people,
It will come upon you!
Already joined I see the army
To make entry, which is sent
To ruthless people, poorly dressed.
(Note: 'Poorly dressed' could mean immodest clothing – a time of immodesty,

or, a rag-tag motley bunch.)
O you who sit on the great throne
Oh what a sympathy
Never overpowers you!
From sword spear and rod
I already see faulty faults,
Already I see ruined Italy my Empia (?), arrogant and righteous!
And already the infantry Colla (?) cavalry
I see come on the ground
And arm a war.
Miserable and dirty Rome! You, what a great (soma ?)
Of Peter you carry, Of those killed and dead
You'll see blood running!
Already in the streets and districts
With the edge of a sword How many, oh how many will die!
Alas! how reduced
They will be Prelates!
Bound, chained, imprisoned
And sent into exile! Already I see every populace rebelled
With the ill-dressed chiericato (cleric?),
And Jesus very angry! Poor and dirty Rome!
You that the great soma (?) (Doors) of Peter,
Then you will be made of glass.
Your knowledge will be made of glass,
your power will be made of glass!
(i.e easily breakable – reduced to nothing)
Alas! what a great army of ruthless people!
Soon you will be purged, desecrated Italy.
The poorly accustomed populace of Rimini and Arezzo,
Of Rome and Faenza, it will be wasted, desolate, uprooted, ruined
From sickle, sword and spear.
France will come and give great threat.
Alas! the sun is darkened, the moon is bloodstained, which turned brown,
It shows that each Party will moan.
And then the evil that will come
The moon and the sun will show it.
After the day of St. Anthony
You will see a horrendous praise
(Or, a horrendous one praised).
It will be seen that I am true in predicting the ardent face;

(OBSERVATIONS: I.e. a terrible sign of warning will be shown in which the sun and moon will be darkened. If this prediction is true and has not been altered in the transmission through the centuries or added to by unscrupulous future scribes,, it will happen during the feast of St. Anthony of Padua, June 13, or that of St. Anthony the Great, January 17. Here we see that France could be the start of the troubles. This was also foretold to Marie-Julie Jahenny, whose prophecies at this part bear a striking resemblance to Bl. Saluzzo's.  She predicted the chastisements would start in Paris, and a 'red' genocidal Revolution would break out and spread. She also predicted June and July would see the bloodshed commence. She said a terrible killer plague would break out, and one of the major symptoms would be a 'burning face'.  Also, she said the Three Days of Darkness would start sometime in the winter when the days were yet short, meaning sometime after the winter solstice. There would be signs in the heavens before all of this starts: a darkness in Brittany, and signs over Paris. Apparently, Bl. Bartholomew has also predicted an 'ardent' or 'burning face' – could this be a prediction of the 'Burning Face Plague' that Marie-Julie Jahenny also predicted that will break out during the civil war in France and the war in Italy?  Bl. Bartholomew declares the appearace of the 'ardent face' will show his predictions to be true.)

It will be well seen how the dirty Rome will become.
Then you will see a horrendous sign that will come
dark and dark, obscure
And the wolf in the den will not be safe, from profane people.
Ah! you who do not pose to the ill,
Misery, you will die,
To you Italy my,
That you are ribald and (ria ?),
And war and famine
Above you send yourself.
To you, red cloak,
To you, red cap,
It will be so much beaten between the marrow and the bones.
(i.e. the Cardinals will suffer greatly?)
Oh how much massacre and harm the Italians will try!
My dirge will not be in vain. Come War of Milan;
The noble, the villain, the master and the servant
Will be prey to fury;
Nuns, friars and priests,
(Meschini?) if you don't change, Oh how many beatings!
You will see it later .... Yes, you will be slaughtered like oxen,
Oh! what a noise in that day
For every valley and every round!
And for three whole days,
the Great Massacre will take place along the paths!

(NOTE: this could refer to the Three Days of Darkness,

but looks more like a wave of genocidal bloodshed will punish Milan?
I.e. 'War of Milan' mentioned above?)

Kill, kill, and in so saying
A torrent of blood will flow.
When the people are well castigated,
Well scourged and desolate,
Then the people and the cleric will change state.
(i.e they will change their evil state)
And a shepherd will come
That with zeal and love will govern the papacy!
Oh how happy, fortunate and blessed!
And then the reformed populace, since transplanted,
Oh a lover It will be of the good Jesus!
Oh how different the Papacy will be!
What a cleric! Fortunate people,
How quiet you will be!
(i.e what peace you will enjoy!)
Ah! that sparkles, of heavenly ardor.
My blessed people, you are
From Jesus, from the cross and from Mary.
