!? Prophecy of Mayence (1854)
Evidence of a HOAX prophecy that first circulated in France during WWI.
Fr. Culleton in his book mentions the 'Prophecy of Mayence' (c. 1854), but apparently he fell prey once again to a hoax.
It is claimed the prophecy was discovered in 'an 'old' convent in 1854, but the prophecy only appeared in print for the first time in a newspaper August 23, 1914. (Fn. 1) It then spread rapidly, and no wonder, since WW I was raging and there was a roaring trade in prophecy-selling at this time trying to capitalise on the publics' fears for the future. The 'St. Odile' prophecy was another one such hoax spread like wildfire at the time as well.
The 18 verses in the 1854 'Mayence' text are cobbled together to fit around the events of WWI -- Fr. Culleton conveniently cut the first half of them out of his book, he only quotes the second half, and then cuts out the last line referencing William II of Prussia.
The verses attempt to shows a great destructive battle that harrows Prussia and France and takes place between Ham, Worl and Paderborn, aka a complete borrowing of the medieval 'Birch Tree Prophecies' of Germany. It is when this battle happens that the noble 'prince' destined to restore the world (aka the Great Monarch) will be in the midst of them, but, the 'prophecy' indicates this will happen when William II is the last king of Prussia.
While King William abdicated the throne in 1918 – that was well over a hundred years ago now, and the Great Monarch has not appeared yet.
Obviously, someone attempted to portray WW I as the dreaded 'Birch Tree Battle' and make some guesses as to the outcome, but WWI obviously was not the battle of the 'Birch Tree' prophecies that would bring in the Great Catholic Monarch. That obviously is still yet to come.
Also, the forger no doubt tried to make the prophecy seem legitimate by calling it the 'Mayence' (Mainz) prophecy thereby forging a connection with the city and its famous 'Sibyllenbuch Fragment' from the 15th century, which is a fragment of verse-text with prophecies foretelling the events to befall the Holy Roman Empire at the end of time.
In all, the 'Mayence Prophecy' of '1854' is a hoax that circulated during WWI, like many other fake prophecies that suddenly appeared at the time.
