 - HAS RECEIVED NEGATIVE DECISIONS / ACTIONS FROM CHURCH -

- WRITINGS CONTAIN DOCTRINAL ERRORS -

- BEATIFICATION PROCESS OFFICIALLY SUSPENDED as of January 2024.

 :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I was first introduced to her writings a long time ago now, someone lent me a booklet about her - and since I had never heard of her before, okay, too a look. (Had no idea her writings had already been condemned.)

Well, I found one major error that turned me right off her and I never looked further into her until now.

The error I found was a 'one-liner' allegedly revealed by Our Lady saying that she knew she was so perfect that she "once almost thought she was equal to (or with) God".

Now, we know Our Lady could never have even thought of such a thing, she could not even commit the slightest fault, so she could NEVER even toy with such an idea, even as a temptation!

Since these writings are all unofficial to begin with, perhaps the publisher made an error? Hmm. Even so, her writings have already been condemned as having several doctrinal errors.  This is the recent development on her case that has just occurred, which has caused me to put this page up.

Her writings should never have been promoted by lay supporters - and it is a wonder her beatification case ever got started.

Her writings were placed on the Index of Forbidden Books in 1938, and she was TWICE refused the 'Nihil Obstat' for her beatification process in 1984 due to the doctrinal errors she wrote.

Her beatification process has been suspended as of 2024 once more due to the errors.

"Beatification process of Luisa Piccarreta suspended"

By Geneviève Pasquier |
("La Croix", February 3, 2024)

Author of numerous mystical writings, Luisa Piccarreta (1865-1947) felt called to spread the message of the "divine will" but whose writings, as early as 1938, raised doctrinal problems

The file is suspended. The Catholic Church will not beatify Luisa Piccarreta, an Italian mystic known for her spiritual exercises centered on union with the will of God

On January 24, Bishop Benoît Bertrand of Mende, president of the French bishops' Episcopal Doctrinal Commission, shared a message from the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints addressed to the bishops of France. The message conveyed the decision to halt the examination of the case of Luisa Piccarreta, initiated in 1994 by the now deceased Italian Archbishop Giovanni Battista Pichierri of Trani.

Why does the Church reproach this Italian mystic, who has been gaining interest among priests and laypeople in recent years? Bishop Bertrand repeats the arguments put forward by the dicastery, which are of three kinds: theological, Christological, and anthropological. Piccarreta's conception of the divine will "does not leave man the possibility to exercise his free will,"
(i.e her writings promote the heresy of Quietism),  it does not incorporate "the primacy of God's merciful and unconditional love," and, finally, there is "little or no mention of the resurrection of Christ," "Christian hope, and ecclesial communion."

Bishop Bertrand, therefore, advises caution regarding the dissemination of Piccarreta's message, echoing the warning of Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, who had asked him in a April 18, 2022 letter, to "accordingly evaluate the popular dissemination of such elements to avoid confusion among believers."
Messenger of the "divine will"?

Piccarreta was born in 1865 in the province of Bari, in the south of Italy. According to her, she bore the stigmata invisibly. Ill and bedridden from the age of 16 until her death in 1947, she joined the Third Order of Saint Dominic at the age of 18. Five years later, she said she experienced a mystical marriage. "The Holy Trinity took possession of my heart," she recounts in her writings -- and felt called to "live in the Divine Will" and to become its messenger.

The Archbishop of Trani at that time assigned her a special confessor. He set limits on her mortifications by ordering her to eat at least once a day. Until her death, she would have confessors assigned by successive archbishops of her archdiocese.

Starting February 28, 1891, at the request of her spiritual director at the time, she began writing a diary recounting her mystical experiences. It took the form of 36 handwritten notebooks, totaling about 10,000 pages. In 1938, she stopped her writings on the order of her confessor, following the placing of her first three volumes on the Index by the Holy Office that lists publications deemed heretical or contrary to morality.

In 1987, an association to make her life known, "Associazione Luisa Piccarreta" was founded -- even though her writings had been placed on the Index. Twice, the Vatican's Dicastery for the Doctrine of Faith declined to provide its "nihil obstat" (no objection) for the advancement of her beatification process due to concerns regarding her writings. However, she was eventually declared a Servant of God after passing a preliminary, diocesan stage for sainthood in the Catholic Church in 2005 and advancing her cause for beatification. Since then, her popularity has grown through the Internet, and Catholic groups have even formed to study her writings. ....

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

To Recap:

* Her initial writings were placed in the Index of Forbidden Books, and her confessor ordered her to stop writing when this happened in the late 1930's. So, her writings were never approved by the Church and have been recognized to contain doctrinal errors.

 * She was twice refused the 'Nihil Obstat' to begin her beatification process in the 1980s due the errors in her writings, which had been UNOFFICIALLY SPREAD by supporters.

*  Somehow, her cause for beatification started, and she was granted the title of Servant of God in 2005 (perhaps the number of supporters made it seem like her work was producing spiritual fruit to at least take a look at it), but I just found out on an EWTN article they were not considering her writings at the time, and were just looking at her life.  Her writings were being studied separately.  (Of interest there has never been an English language edition of her writings issued, so whatever is out there in English is printed without the approval of the Church according to EWTN).  (EWTN source, click here).

So, the decision to look first at her life  and not the writings until later obviously played a big part in getting the process started when before it had been twice rejected - in this third attempt they had not gone into the errors yet, or, at least did not examine the texts in union with the examination into her life!  Very strange course of action as the written work of a beatification candidate is taken into account to judge the sanctity of the person and if they did not write anything contrary to Church teaching or  morals.

However, the finally looked into her writings because .....

*  Errors in her writings have now once again caused the beatification process to be officially halted.

*  It is obvious her visions or mystical experiences are extremely problematic  if they contain noted condemned heresies, like Quietism. According to the "New Advent" site, Quietism is a false sense of spiritual mysticism regarding the will of God acting in Man:

"In the state of "quietude" the mind is wholly inactive; it no longer thinks or wills on its own account, but remains passive while God acts within it. Quietism is thus generally speaking a sort of false or exaggerated mysticism, which under the guise of the loftiest spirituality contains erroneous notions which, if consistently followed, would prove fatal to morality. It is fostered by Pantheism and similar theories, and it involves peculiar notions concerning the Divine cooperation in human acts." (New Advent).

This is one of the major issues that keeps popping up with her.

So, no, she is not an approved mystic.

And I for one cannot help but note since it is constantly pointed out her writings contain serious doctrinal and moral errors, enough to reject and halt beatification processes, then whatever 'mystical' experiences she seems to have had cannot have been supernatural.

UPDATE (March 2024):  I have just seen a video on a YouTube channel called 'Scripture and Tradition' quoting passages from her diary, and it is very sickening and disturbing...I cannot help but agree with the priest presenting this that what she experienced was demonic and of a highly disordered nature.

To give an idea, she said Christ in one 'vision' trying to literally suckle her heart out of her chest through her breast. Yes, sucked on her breast.  This is not how Christ removes a mystic's heart to replace it with a fire of His own as we see with other real visions from true mystics - obviously the devil was trying to mock or twist this.  There are other disturbing visions where Christ takes His 'rest' by literally laying in bed with her, and in other visions, kisses her on the mouth, and she returns it too, the both kiss each other on the mouth, and give each other 'caresses'.  She even describes suckling His breast, (yes, 'milk' from His nipple,)  and, that she also did this with Our Lady.  She describes other 'visions' in her diary where she tried to 'suckle' or 'suck' things from Our Lord's mouth.  One 'thing' that came from His mouth was described as a 'black' thick liquid substance she could not identify and then could not 'swallow' it, she had to spit it out.     Obviously, what she experienced was not the mysticism of heaven, but some strange disordered mystic 'fetish' inspired or caused by something demonic.     No wonder they were put on the Index of Forbidden books. I was literally getting sick listening to this: and this video does not yet get into the theological / doctrinal errors of her books.  Click here to see the video: "Not for Children: 'The Divine Will' is Repulsive'.
